About the Artist

When people ask me how long I have been drawing and painting, I tell them “all my life”.  Some of my earliest memories revolve around art.  I was always creating things and drawing as a child and continued this on into adulthood.

I grew up in Amherst, NY and graduated in 1987 from the State University of New York at Geneseo with a dual major in Art Studio and English.  Since graduating from college, I have had the opportunity to study under many different artists.  I have studied drawing and painting at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery (Buffalo, NY), Maryland College of Art and Design (Wheaton, MD), the Art League School (Alexandria, Virginia), Peninsula Fine Arts Center (Newport News, VA) and the Charles Taylor Arts Center (Hampton, VA).

After the birth of my first child about ten years ago, I decided that I wanted to take classes again but challenge myself by studying  a different medium.  I became a regular class participant of an acrylic painting class taught by local painter and teacher James Warwick Jones.  I continued studying under him for many years.

Learning to paint with acrylics has opened up a new world for me in exploring art.  Since that initial acrylic painting class, I have tackled many different subjects-florals, animals, landscapes, still lifes and architectural landmarks.  Each painting has given me the opportunity to learn more about my medium and to grow as an artist.

Since starting to paint in acrylics, two of my paintings have been made into posters.  My painting “Daffodil Dance” was chosen as the festival poster for the Gloucester County Daffodil Festival in 2006.  In 2007, my painting of the old Fuller’s Hotel in Phoebus, Virginia was selected as the poster for Phoebus Days in Hampton, VA.

I have recently started to create mixed medium pieces and I am excited about all the different possibilities this has in store for me.  To explore my art and share it with my family, friends, customers and acquaintances is such a joy for me.

I make James City County, Virginia my home where I live with my husband, 3 small children and various pets.  We live not far from the many historical places and beautiful views of the Peninsula.  I am a certified master gardener and would-be naturalist who loves gardening and studying both flora and fauna. Many of the references for my florals are flowers from my garden. I enjoy spending my time outdoors where I find inspiration in the world around me whether it’s in my garden, driving down the road or taking a walk with my dog.  Thank you for stopping by and looking at my gallery!
